          Um, but why?          

As a biologist, I cannot ignore the ecological devestation of modern farming practices in my day-to-day habits. The sciences says over and over that animal agriculture uses the most resources (e.g., land and water) and produces pollutants (e.g., manure runoff) and is responsible for 10-25% of greenhouse gases emissions. So. I'm not going to support it.

I like animals most when they are alive and not suffering. Mass producing animals involves practices that make me uncomfortable and sad. So. I'm not going to support it.

I like to vote and make my voice heard. And with food, I can vote three times a day with each meal (and...with a lot of between-meal-snacks).

I'm not really a health nut, but all the same...if I can reduce greenhouse gases and animal abuse AND decrease my chances of heart disease, diabetes, colorectal cancer and other stuff...I might as well. It's a win-win-win.
